Aerosol

Question
Hi, I have heard about a new « intelligent » device called ALTERA. Do you know it ? What are the differences between this device and the others ? Thanks.
Answer
Hello and thanks for your question. Altera® is a mesh nebulizer similar to the e-Flow rapid® nebulizer commercialized in Europe. Nebulization is fast and quiet, and the nebulizer is hand-handling. The only difference between Altera® and e-Flow rapid® is the shape of the reservoir, with the mesh placed at bottom. This explains, compared to the e-Flow rapid®, the absence of residual volume and a 2-fold higher lung deposition. Altera® is only recommended for aztreonam (Cayston®). Used with other antibiotics such like tobramycine (Tobi®) an overdosage could be feared. Best regards.
