Chromosome 13

Question
After the amniocentecis the mutation DF508 was detected in the embryo in heterozytotical form.
In the test results it is mentioned that a molecular screening is necessary, which was conducted at Horemion laboratory.
It is also mentioned that the analysis regarding chromosome 13 was not informative after the analysis of two polymorphic indeces. The final results are expected after the culture.
Can the above have anything to do with the presentation of CF in the baby?
Answer
Dear friend,
The gene for CF is found in the long arm of chromosome 7 and in in no way connected to chromosome 13. Therefore, the results for chromosome 13, mentioned in your question, do not have anything to do with the presentation or not of CF in your baby.
Regarding these results, you should discuss them with the geneticians who conducted the tests and made the diagnosis.
Yours friendly,
Dr. Stavros Doudounakis
