- What is the norm of the sweat tets? When the result of sweat test is normal, and when is abnormal?

Thank you very much for your question. We do the sweat test in Medical Genetics Centre of Vilnius University Hospital by Wescor macroduct system. For infants up to 6 months of age, a chloride level of: equal to or less than 29 mmol/l is normal result and cystic fibrosis is very unlikely; 30 - 59 mmol/l - intermediate means and cystic fibrosis is possible, and greater than or equal to 60 mmol/l - cystic fibrosis to be diagnosed.
For people older than 6 months of age, a chloride level of: equal to or less than 39 mmol/l is normal result and cystic fibrosis is very unlikely; 40 - 59 mmol/l - intermediate means and cystic fibrosis is possible, and greater than or equal to 60 mmol/l - cystic fibrosis to be diagnosed.
Anyway, the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis is always made by specialist who evaluate the clinical signs and results of analysis.
