Preschool (Kindergarten)

Question
What do I have to take into account as the leader of a preschool (Kindergarten) when I am planning to host a child suffering from CF in my instituion?
Answer
Hello,
There is a general information paper from the German federal association "Mukoviszidose e.V." for preschools (Kindergarten) and schools dealing with the topic of CF. There you will find general information. In addition, you have to take into account specific aspects for every single patient. In that case, it is helpful, after having the agreement of the parents, to get the specific information from that CF center, where your future preschool child is treated at. The center should also provide you with a therapy plan, which authorizes you and your staff, to dose for example the pancreatic enzymes according to the taken meals.
As severe infections of the airways endanger patients with CF, you should always stay in close contact with the parents of the child, in order to consider in times of flu, when probably many children are ill, that the child suffering from CF should probably stay at home for a defined period of time.
General aspects of prophylactic hygiene should be discussed with the parents, in order to find a common, for all sides acceptable solution.
Generally speaking: a child suffering from Cf should grow up as normal as possible in a preschool.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. H.-G. Posselt
