chronic pseudomonas
- Question
- When does one talk about chronic Pseuodomonas? How long does it take to cause gross damage to the lungs?
- Answer
- Dear friend,
Usually we define chronic pseudomonas when it grows at 50% of the cultures a patient with CF has in the course of a year.
The treatment of the chronic pseudomonas infection includes the administration of inhaled antibiotics in combination with intravenous drugs, in order to suppress the chronic intrabronchial infection and to minimize the extent of the damage.
The time of the onset of gross damage cannot be determined, but I can assure you that the said time period is very long, as long as you follow the medical treatment and do your physiotherapy on a daily basis.
Yours friendly,
Dr. Stavros Doudounakis
