chlorination

Question
Hello,

To fight against harmful bacteria for a person with CF, it is advisable to bleach regularly sinks, tubs, toilets ...

Does repeated use of bleach be likely to make domestic bacteria more resistant ?
Secondly, products or wipes that fight 99.9% of bacteria but do not contain bleach are they as effective?

Does too much hygiene also prevent the body to defend itself when it meets bacteria? Are there risks to live in a too aseptic environment?
Answer
Hello,
I will try to answer your very relevant questions.
Effectively, bleach is recommended as a disinfectant at home because it is:
bactericidal
virucidal
fungicidal (on fungi)

But bleach also imposes strict safety precautions:
- Bleach should only be used after cleaning, with a detergent (e.g. cream cleanser as sanitary cleaners for floors and other surfaces ...) and then rinse the surface before disinfect. "We disinfect well only what is clean".
- It is never used pure but should always be diluted
- It should never be mixed with other cleaning products or in hot water
- The contact time must be at least 10 minutes for good efficiency.
- It is necessary to rinse the surfaces in contact with food and brittle materials (stainless steel, joints ...)
- We must respect the dilution according to the surfaces and equipment to be dinsinfected:
- For surfaces, dilute 0.13% (1/2 cup of 2.6% bleach in 1 liter of water)

Whatever its presentation, bleach should be stored away from light, heat and out of reach of children (prevention of domestic accidents).
The reconstruction is done exclusively in an old bottle of bleach.

What to do in case of an incident:
If bleach has been swallowed, do not induce vomiting, call emergency doctor or the poison control center.
Meanwhile, rinse the mouth with a wet washcloth.
If emanation of chlorine gas (due to a mixture with an acid), ventilate the room, leave the room and consult a doctor.
If splashed in the eyes or on skin, wash immediately with plenty of water for 10 minutes.
If splashed in the eyes, consult a specialist.

I think the products without bleach are effective if they demonstrate a standard of bactericidal chemicals but these products are therefore also be used with caution.
There is no study to my knowledge demonstrating the presence of resistant bacteria due to intensive use of disinfectant at home.

It seems interesting (as you seem to indicate) not to fall into "hygienism", that is to say, one should apply to the house basic simple hygiene rules, without excess.
because it is now proved that frequent use of household chemicals products
is not good for the respiratory health of children.

It therefore seems reasonable to disinfect once a week the following parts:
WC
bathroom
kitchen
After cleaning and rinsing.
Do not be a "slave" of hygiene!
