bath
- Question
- When we bathe our children with cystic fibrosis at friends whose bathtub looks clean, do we have to use bleach for the bathtub before? (I know they do not use regular bleach) or should we avoid bathing them?
- Answer
- Hello,
There is currently no study proving that such action rather than another would prevent bacterial contamination in cystic fibrosis. It is recommended to follow general advice for basic hygiene, simple and without excess: Clean with detergent and disinfecting.
Bleach is a cheap and effective disinfectant but must be used properly following the instructions and in strict safety rules (in particular identifying the bottle and putting it out of reach of children). There are also other "cleaners and disinfectants" products easier to use which can replace bleach.

The bathroom is actually a wetland area where there may be reservoirs of germs. However, with your friends, the bathtub is visibly clean and you will bathe your child occasionally, the risk of contamination is minimal.
In summary, in everyday life, respect the hygiene rules for everyone, the solution is to reconcile adequate precautions and a good quality of life.
