Water dispenser with a fixed fresh water supply (pipe hook-up) – pseudomonas

Question
Dear expert team,

My daughter (4 years) has CF. In the day-care-center they have now installed a water dispenser with a fixed fresh water supply (pipe hook-up) instead of using water bottles. The children can help themselves to water. The dispenser points out that it has to be rinsed after not being used for a while. Is this without risk for my daughter (especially concerning pseudomonas); can she drink from the dispenser or is another solution better for her? (after first colonisation with successful eradication so far we are a bit afraid).

Many thanks

Answer
Dear questioner,

Unfortunately we have the experience that such water dispensers – depending on brand, maintenance and use – can be colonized with pseudomonas aeruginosa. Therefore I would recommend to find another solution for your daughter like e.g. drinking water from a [store-bought] bottle.

Many greetings,
