Pseudomonas in the lake / retention pond (storage reservoir)

- Hello,
We would like to move to another apartment and I am a CF patient. We looked at an apartment which is about 30-40 meters away from a retention pond and about 100 meters away from a lake.
Is there a danger to be colonized with pseudomonas (by inhaling) if we moved to the new apartment?
I had pseudomonas once. But now it is eradicated.

- Dear questioner,
P. aeruginosa is a water bug which is very widely spread in the environment and is transmitted especially by aerosoles. The contamination load of waters with P. aeruginosa can be very different; it can be higher in standing water bodies than in bodies of streaming water and also depends e.g. – as far as is known – on the degree of cleanness respectively contamination, on the season respectively the water temperature and so on. Insofar, according to my opinion, generally there is a certain risk to be colonized with pseudomonads if you get in “contact” (depending on the way of exposition) to – whatever kind of - waters. As far as I know there are no precise studies in which radius of a water body germs can still be detected in the air or in the neighboring environment (e.g. soil, plants). As mostly the real origin of the infection is not clear in CF patients it is hardly possible to give a reliable information about the individual risk.
