Early diagnostics

- We know that our son (6 months old) has an increased risk for the illness of CF. A first screening test after birth did not show any hints for the disease and clinically he is up to now also totaly healthy.
Now I want to know, if we should have a sweat test done nevertheless, to be able to start treatment if necessary as soon as possible?

if there is an increased risk for CF in a 6-month-old child one will for sure ascertain the diagnosis or finally exclude the disease.
To have a sweat test done should not be a problem in a CF center or in a pediatric hospital. Clinically the child is doing well. However, if there are any insecurities, one should confirm the good result fo the screening test or have further diagnostics done. It is like this, that many children with CF are doing well in the early childhood. Therefore a sweat test brings clarification quickly. In case the result should not be unambiguous, further diagnostics will be initiated by the CF center without loss of time.
A screening test is a guide. Probably the result is already a hint that the diagnosis of CF is not underlying.
