White margin of sweat in case of sweating
- Question
- Hello,
I have the following question:
It strikes to me, that my son (16 months old) has a white margin of sweat from sweating in case he had his dark hood on while sleeping for a long time in the buggy, just in the shape of his head. The margin also tastes salty. It did not strike to me until now, even not in the dark car seat. He is rather gentle with this 16 months (10kg, 85cm) but he eats not too much; he had sometimes rhinitis and cough, that was always productive and could be coughed up easily. The newborn screening was also negative. Should one in this case make a sweat test to be sure?
Many thanks. - Answer
- Dear questioner,
thank you for your question.
Your son is growing well, he is on the 90th percentile with his height, that means only 10 % of the children of his age are even taller. However, he is rather gentle. The body weight of 10kg is only on the 23rd percentile. 77% of the children of his age have a higher body weight. The relationship of height and weight, the so-called bodymass index is at 13.8 kg/qm. This is the 1st percentile and should be clarified by your pediatrician. Please talk to him about this. Has the child already been so gentle at birth? Most important is the course and the family history: Have father, mother, siblings also been like this at that age and did not eat much? Is there food that your child avoids? How is the stool (how many per day, mushy or hard?) Do you have the impression he suffers from stomach pain (during the sleep)? Intolerance of food could play a role. A nutritional protocol for a week could be helpful in order to see, if your child gets enough calories. There is also the possibility that the gut does ingest differently due to an illness and that is the reason for the low weight.
It is right, that the illness of CF could be one possible reason beneath others. Your pediatrician has to decide, if a sweat test should be done. It is important to know, that there could be many reasons for the low weight of your son.
I hope to have helped you, please talk to your pediatrician about this.
