Salty kiss

Question
My son just had a sweat test done to exclude CF. We don’t have the results yet. If I kiss my son there is no salty taste so I wonder how this is. My son doesn’t really sweat all that much. Does the sweat of a child with CF always taste salty when you kiss him or not?
Answer
Dear parent,

To the question whether the sweat of CF children always tastes salty the answer is clearly no. Many parents do not remark this at all. Sweat is always slightly salty. It just happens that the sweat of children with CF is saltier than normal and once in a while a parent notices this. The taste of the sweat is not a reliable test to think of CF. Only the result of a properly performed sweat test will tell you whether you have CF.
