- Can you get CF at an older age ? At the age of 50 years for example ?

- CF is a hereditary disease. You are born with it and either you have it or you don’t have it. You can’t “get” CF at an older age. However, the symptoms of CF are not always present from birth or childhood. Many people with CF have a lot of symptoms that start early on in life. Some people with CF have few symptoms that only start later in life. In about 10% of the patients the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis is made after puberty. It is thus possible that doctors only diagnose CF in a patient at the age of 50. You can read more about this subject in the questions about diagnosis.
