Hygienic measures when taking a shower
- Question
- Dear expert team,
when taking a shower, which measures have to be taken regarding infections with typical water bugs? I can imagine that one could easily inhale germs due to the fine jets of water and the fog?!
Many thanks for your answer! - Answer
- Dear questioner,
it is true that showers and wet areas are easily colonized by so-called “water bugs.” These germs can sometimes be detected in rather high concentrations in these areas. Among these germs are, for example, legionella, which usually do not constitute a risk for CF patients. However, there are often also pseudomonadaceae, also pseudomonas aeruginosa, or mold, the latter particularly on the walls or on the silicone in the shower. In order to keep the number of germs at a minimum, it is important that the shower can dry up well and the bathroom area is aired well. To reduce the germ load at the beginning of your shower, you should leave hot water should running for a short time in order to destroy the germs.
Enjoy your shower,
Kind regards,
